ISO 9001:2008

The ISO 9000 family of standards represents an international concensus on good quality management practices. It forms the foundation of the other sector specific standards such as AS9100 (aerospace), ISO13485 (medical), TS16949 (automotive) and ISO14000 (envionmental) to name a few.

ISO 9001:2008 is the current ISO standard and it can be applied to service and distribution industries as well as: manufacturing, processing, servicing, printing, forestry, electronics, steel, computing, legal services, trucking, and retailing. These are a few of the business sectors that have implemented this standard.

Richard DeBellis

"The first step in meeting customer satisfaction is establishing a quality management system designed for that specific result.

The second step is contracting with a professional organization like Premier Quality Systems to ensure you arrive there on time with confidence."

- Richard DeBellis, Director of Contracts, Compro Computer Services

The first step to become ISO 9001:2008 Registered is a "Gap Analysis." The purpose of this audit is to determine any “gaps” between your Quality Management System and the ISO 9001 based standard.

This is especially important if you have elected to implement your own quality management system. The standard does not give you any ideas on what you need to implement, what is appropriate for your size and type organization or what would meet the standard. Something may have been left out and result in your company receiving major nonconformances and not being recommended for certification at that time.

Once all the ISO9001:2008 quality system requirements that are appropriate for your organization have been fully implemented and developed, Internal Audits are the way to verifiy the effectiveness of your Quality Management System and to identify any remaining weaknesses in your system prior to your registration audit. Many of our clients have hired us to help them implement their Quality Management Systems and then have retained us to do their Internal Audits.

A "Registrar" will then send one of their auditors to audit your firm's Quality Management System. They will review the company's documentation including records and interview employees. If your company is recommended for registration your company will then be issued a certificate and be considered registered to the ISO 9001 Standard.

Kathy Pino

"Premier Quality Systems is a great company to work with. There is no one else we would want to work with us. They demystified the whole process for us and told us exactly what we needed to do to get our company registered. We like working with them so much that we have them back every year to do our Internal Audits for us."

- Kathy Pino, President, MS Electronix

You may hear a company say they are ISO 9001 compliant. What this means is that they have implemented some sort of a quality system that THEY believe is compliant to ISO9001. But it was never tested (audited by a 3rd party (objective outside) auditor).

Registration is not mandatory, but it is definitely recommended as it shows a deeper level of commitment to quality and customer service and that top management at your company is confident that they are following the ISO9001:2008 standard. You must be complying to the standard as your documents, records and employees are being audited. An outside audit is the only way to verify that your company's Quality Management System meets the standard. PQS has helped numerous companies implement a quality system that is appropriate to the size and scope of their business.
